Cross-Object: Converting Duplicate Leads
Cross-object groups are Leads that match existing Accounts/Contacts. Instead of the merge table, they open a Lead conversion preview workbench — the duplicate lead is converted into the existing customer record rather than merged.
Cross-object scenarios have no Master step and no multi-select/mass merge — every conversion is a deliberate, one-at-a-time decision about which contact receives the lead's data.
The conversion workbench
- Lead details
- Shows the lead's information.
- Choose contact match
- Lists matching contacts as selectable tiles: "Select the contact that should receive this lead's data. Only one match can be chosen."
- Confirm or cancel
- Convert the lead into the chosen Account/Contact, or leave it in the queue.
Controlling conversion behavior
- Create Opportunity
- Salesforce default, No, or Yes.
- Converted status
- Which lead status to apply on conversion, from your org's lead statuses.
