Creating & Managing Scenarios

A scenario is a saved configuration that defines how duplicates are detected for one object. You can build scenarios for Accounts, Contacts, Leads, or Cross-object (matches Leads against existing Accounts/Contacts so duplicate leads can be converted instead of merged).

A scenario row carries object type, group count, status badge, favourite star, and a state-dependent action (Activate / Deactivate / Processing).

Creating a scenario

Click New scenario and choose the object. Enter a Scenario name (required) and an optional Description, then click Create.

The object cannot be changed after creation. To target a different object, create a new scenario.

The scenario wizard

The wizard opens inline on the Scenarios page with three steps:

1

Match rules

Choose which fields must match for records to group as duplicates.

2

Filters

Optionally limit which records the scan should include.

3

Master

Choose which record survives a merge. Cross-object scenarios skip this step.

Rename the scenario anytime with the pencil icon. Use Next and Back between steps; on the final step the button becomes Save scenario.

The Scenarios page — filters and card controls

Filter scenarios by object (Accounts / Contacts / Leads / Cross-object) and status (All / Active / Inactive). Each scenario card shows name, object type, duplicate-group count, and status.

Favourite star
Pin the scenario to the Home page Favourited list.
Edit
Open the scenario wizard inline below the card.
Delete
Permanently removes the scenario after confirmation: "Delete scenario '…'? This cannot be undone."
Start / Stop
Starts a duplicate scan or stops the active scenario.

Delete is disabled while a scenario is active or running — deactivate it first.

When editing is locked

Why controls lock

Match rules, filters, and master rules can't be edited while a scenario is active or processing.

Stop first Edit after deactivation

The wizard shows: "Deactivate this scenario before editing match rules, filters, or master rules."
