Quick Start

This is the shortest path from a fresh install to your first completed plan calculation — about ten minutes. You need the FinPlan_User permission set and access to the Financial Planner Lightning app.

Install and permission details: Permissions and Setup.

1

Create a Financial Plan

Open the Financial Planner app, go to the Financial Plans tab, click New, enter a plan name (for example, Sample Household Plan), and save. The plan opens in the main panel workspace.

2

Set plan members and tax context

Under My Plan, open Plan Preferences. Expand Plan Members, edit First Plan Owner, link a Contact, and set birthday, retirement timing, and longevity timing. Under Tax & Country, set your tax jurisdiction (United States or Canada).

3

Add at least one account and one income or expense

Open Accounts and Assets, add an account with type and balance. Then add at least one income row on Income or a baseline expense on Expenses and Healthcare.

4

Review the Plan Projections checklist

Open Plan Projections and scan the getting-started cards. Complete items that matter for your scenario before the first client-facing run.

5

Run Calculation

Return to Plan PreferencesSystem Settings. Click Run Calculation and wait for status to reach Ready — or review charts when the UI shows projections are available at DTO_Ready.

6

Review results on Overview and Insights

Open Overview for net wealth, plan health, and projected net worth. Drill into Net Worth - Projected, Retirement Success, or Cashflow under Insights.

First success: If Overview charts load and orchestration status shows Ready, your install and basic workflow are working. Explore Reading Insights and Explorers next.

Auto Update: When enabled, input changes can enqueue a new calculation automatically. For your first run, leave it Off or wait for the initial run to finish before editing inputs.

What the screens look like

The Plan Projections page shows checklist cards for each input category. Green checkmarks indicate data is present.
What to expect while orchestration runs
  • Status progresses through Submitted, Processing, and often DTO_Ready before Ready.
  • Charts may refresh at DTO_Ready while background saving continues — an info toast confirms projections are ready for review.
  • Duplicate runs are blocked while status is in flight (Submitted, Processing, or DTO_Ready).
  • Open Run History if a run fails or appears stuck. See Running Calculations.
