Roth conversion analysis in Salesforce
Model conversion amounts and timing on the household plan, next to tax context and retirement cash flow.
Roth conversations need the same plan that already holds accounts, ages, and tax context. Financial Planner includes a Roth explorer and a Roth-opportunity metric on the watchlist so conversion analysis is not a one-off spreadsheet.
Inputs, assumptions, outputs, and limits
Inputs
Household accounts, income, expenses, ages, withdrawal assumptions, and tax context on the Financial Plan record — entered in the app or imported from a plan CSV export.
Assumptions
Baseline projections use the plan’s optimistic rate set for returns, inflation, and related drivers unless you change them in Plan Preferences or an explorer overlay.
Output
Charts, success rates, and strategy cards render from persisted projection and explorer results on the plan — not recalculated ad hoc in the browser.
How to interpret
Use explorers to compare strategies in a meeting. Confirm material changes with a full Run Calculation on the baseline plan before client delivery.
Limitations
Explorers are analytical overlays — not tax filing, trade execution, or custodian instructions. Complex cross-border tax situations need qualified advice.
Convert $40,000 this year?
Sample data — Alex & Jordan Chen (illustration only, not a client record)
The advisor opens Roth Explorer on the Chen plan with current tax context.
| Primary / spouse ages | 58 / 56 |
|---|---|
| Target retirement age | 65 |
| Investable assets | $1.2M across IRA, Roth, and taxable accounts |
| Annual spending goal | $95,000 (Must Spend) |
| Tax context | Married filing jointly, US federal + state |
| Conversion tested | $40,000 Traditional IRA → Roth in 2026 |
Result shown in the app: Explorer charts projected Roth vs Traditional balances, tax impact, and IRMAA exposure for the conversion range.
Limitation: Analysis only — conversions execute through your custodian, not in Financial Planner.
Conversion math parked outside CRM
The “Roth file” is a side model
Associates cannot see last quarter’s conversion range because it lived in one planner’s export.
Bracket and IRMAA get dropped
A conversion that looked efficient pretax can collide with IRMAA or a spike in ordinary income.
Timing questions need a current plan
This-year versus next-year conversions only work if the household projection is up to date.
Roth tools on the plan
Roth explorer
A dedicated explorer for conversion strategies sits with Social Security and other retirement analysis pages.
Roth opportunity on the watchlist
Insights surface a Roth-opportunity metric alongside tax rate and cash-flow measures.
Same tax context as the projection
Conversions are discussed on the plan that already captured tax context and packaged tax tables.

Common questions
Does this execute conversions in a custodian?
No. It is analysis on the Financial Plan. Trade and transfer execution stays with your custodian and existing Salesforce processes.
Is Roth analysis US-only?
Roth conversion analysis is a US planning workflow. Canada households use CPP/OAS and Canada tax tools in the same app.
